Watching Tech cone in and do what they did...it's unpleasant. I didn't want them to atrophy and die in a conference wilderness, but I don't think I wanted this result either.

Ok, enough self pity. Let's go win football games.

SSFR
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7193007137551439191.post-30761198200426093412013-08-27T11:06:25.255-04:002013-08-27T11:06:25.255-04:00You really can't judge the two waves of Big Ea...You really can't judge the two waves of Big East newcomers as one group. The first move, for the Hokies, BC, and Miami, was a proactive, aggressive move for what was, at that time, 3 solid looking programs. It gave us the ACCCG. It's easy to forget, but at the time, when you combined those programs with FSU and Co., the ACC looked strong.

The 2nd move was more of a pro-active defensive move, if that makes sense. We struck when no one was looking, but no one really viewed Pittsburgh/Syracuse as key programs that would really strengthen anything. Heck, one could argue that the addition of Louisville, as Maryland's replacement, was a better move than adding Pittsburgh or Syracuse.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7193007137551439191.post-41797222323034517322013-08-26T19:57:53.989-04:002013-08-26T19:57:53.989-04:00What an odd collection the Big East refugees have ...What an odd collection the Big East refugees have proven to be. Tech tasks over the conference, Miami largely sucks and then when good is ineligible for that good, Pittsburgh and Syracuse look bad, and I thought BC would be atrocious and famously awful until I read this post (I still think they will finish in a double-digits position in a post-season ranking of the entire conference).

What was the point of this again? We invite Tech to take over our conference, nay, or governor DEMANDS it, and for the favor of being curbstomped by Tech we take on all their baggage. This feels like the sports equivalent of the Financial Crisis, but exactly how I'm not sure. Did we bail out Tech? Did we take on a bunch of debt to live in a house we didn't want or need? What is the proper analogy here?

How did this work out for the best? Because we still exist as a conference? Because Maryland was so awful? I suppose the answer is yes to both but I feel so used. So sold. If this is indeed the victory for the conference it's been made out to be then it's a Pyrrhic one at best.

Welcome to the Coastal Conference, Pitt! Please bring Notre Dame to make sense of all this!

Crying on the shower floor,
SSFRAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7193007137551439191.post-79982080301665281492013-08-26T17:18:32.993-04:002013-08-26T17:18:32.993-04:00Great stuff as always, Brendan. As a Florida State alum, I want to agree with your final bowl prediction. Sadly, a Senior vs Freshman QB is very significant here. Hopefully Famous Jameis can deliver but that Clemson D will be better another year under Venebles and Tajh should be a Heisman contender. Either way, thank you for the FREE football attention to our oft-beleaguered conference. I’m looking forward to similar analysis on the hard-court.
