The DL should be deeper (inside: Brown, Dean ... perhaps Brathwaite ... haven't really followed that front ... outside of Harold/Moore/Corney). The LB's are good, and there's depth. The secondary should be solid.

The development of Smith and, to a lesser extent, Olanrewaju, along with other young OL guys getting PT offers more hope than we've had the last two years (again ... that might not say that much ... although I'm very curious about Smith ... really wonder if he has some early round LT potential). It's possible Moss or Richardson could play their way into a role as freshmen. To be fair to the OL, it flashed at moments this year, albeit more in the run game. On paper, the TE position looks fine, and the RB position has depth.

Of course, that does leave the most important spot, QB, and WR up in the air. How much of the passing game's poor play was on the WR's and how much of it was on the poor QB play is up to the coaches to decide. There's "talent" at WR, but there's also boneheaded plays. I'm of the opinion, however much I hate to say it, that the QB position should be wide open. That is, Johns and Cutler should be given a clear shot at the role, along with Lambert and Watford.

On paper, this team looks like it could push for .500 and maybe, maybe a bowl if it gets decent QB play and Mike London delegates gameday duties and doesn't screw anything up. There's raw talent - a lot of the defensive players have pro potential of some fashion, and on offense, there's definitely guys with raw talent.

Of course, crappy QB play and it could be a crappy season. Granted, that would lead to London being gone, which wouldn't be a bad thing ... but I refuse to actively cheer against my team. So here's to dreaming ... Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
