To be fair, I do get the impression that they're not trying to make a dig at Virginia, but rather they've been wanting to complain about unbalanced scheduling in general -- a very valid complaint -- and have been looking for an opportunity to do so. And Virginia (Virginia?!) winning the ACC seems like the perfect opportunity.

But someone needs to point out to them that this is a poor opportunity to make that particular point, simply because UVA has such a commanding lead in the standings. If UVA were one game ahead, and had struggled (or lost) against the elite teams, then sure: the easier schedule put us over the top. But we have a 2-3 game lead and in head-to-head competition showed we're also an elite team. Unbalanced scheduling is a problem, I just wish commentators hadn't latched on to this particular situation as an example of that problem. Thanks for addressing it objectively.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7193007137551439191.post-8540215021076280792014-03-03T22:05:03.464-05:002014-03-03T22:05:03.464-05:00Out of that recruiting class? Johnson can't seem to unglue his butt from any bench he parks it on, but I mean the guy had an Arizona offer.Brendanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10506945153264825303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7193007137551439191.post-44482154215185006772014-03-03T19:44:04.485-05:002014-03-03T19:44:04.485-05:00Brendan,

If you had to pick back in 2009/2010 which guy would be the focal points of the team who would you have picked?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7193007137551439191.post-32041539467365912492014-03-03T11:53:38.886-05:002014-03-03T11:53:38.886-05:00It really was a storybook way to win the regular s...It really was a storybook way to win the regular season. Often you clinch it when you're not even on the court. Or you clinch it by beating some sucky bottom-feeder. Or you clinch it on the road.

We got the opportunity to clinch it by beating the best team (apart from us). On our home floor. On Senior Day. With the two seniors, Joe and Akil, who along with Tony turned this program around, from rags in their first year to riches in their fourth.

Then the scheduling gods even gave us an 8-day layoff afterward so Tony could feel comfortable allowing the guys to get emotional for a bit.

The various online articles (of course I read them all) were inevitably accompanied by a photo of joyous chaos on the bench, with a caption about us clinching our first outright regular-season title in 33 years. And you have to look at those photos and smile, because you know the joyous chaos wasn't because we clinched the regular season; it was because benchwarmer senior Thomas Rogers hit that fallaway 3 for his first-ever ACC points, on Senior Day. You couldn't write it up any better!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
